Iván Ortolá claimed pole position for the Moto3 British GP this Saturday, setting a new category lap record at Silverstone and marking his second career pole in the championship.

In Q1, Adrián Fernández (Leopard Racing/Honda) was the first to complete a timed lap and led the session for nearly half of its duration. However, the Spaniard only secured his place in Q2 with his final lap, clocking a 2m10.933s to take the top spot.

Filippo Farioli (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda) finished second, just 0.131s behind, followed by Xabi Zurutuza (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Matteo Bertelle (Kopron Rivacold Snipers/Honda). The Italian was the last to move on to Q2, edging Tatchakorn Buasri (Honda Team Asia) by just 73 thousandths of a second.

Jacob Roulstone (Red Bull GasGas Tech3) was the first leader in the Q2, but with four minutes remaining, only six riders had set valid times. Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas) was in second place, just 0.088s behind.

Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) overtook Roulstone, but the Dutchman wasn’t able to resist to Ortolá (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) when the Spaniard set a new lap record: 2m09.270s.

Despite Veijer straightaway, Veijer placed himself in second, 0.385s behind the leader. Joel Kelso (BOE Motorsports/KTM) was third and David Alonso (CFMOTO Valresa Aspar) was fourth at that stage,

With his last attempt, Veijer did his best personal lap time, but he could not beat Ortolá who secured the pole position by a narrow margin of 0.041s. Kelso will start from third, while the championship leader, Alonso, will line up in fourth position.
