Motorcycling is a sport particularly prone to injuries. A good example of this was the 2023 MotoGP season, where every main race saw at least one rider absent due to injury. Álex Márquez, from Gresini, addressed aspects of preparation and injuries on Spanish television.
During a conversation while visiting «Operación Triunfo» poarticipants, #73 discussed his preparation before the new season: ‘I started with a lot of riding, then I will stop, do physical training – which includes aerobics, cycling, running, gym, every day. And we can’t train on our bike whenever we want. […]. So, there are other disciplines. But it’s the same for everyone’.
Regarding injuries, Márquez explained that they aren’t as preventable as in football: ‘It’s not like footballers, who can somewhat prevent it. We crash, there’s no prevention. Flexibility is necessary, you have to be agile because if you’re stiff as a rock, you may be very strong, but you crash and get injured. That’s the problem. But normally, on a muscular level, like footballers or tennis players, we don’t get injured – it’s more about the impact of crashes on bones’.
