Pedro Acosta finished in third place in the Sprint race of the Catalan MotoGP Grand Prix. After leading the race, he struggled in the final laps to remain competitive and even the top three positions were at risk.
The Spanish rider from Red Bull GasGas Tech3 admitted that the level of difficulty was very high: ‘It was definitely the toughest of the season so far. Ultimately, when you make a mistake with the throttle and start sliding and overheating the tire, you’re done. This maybe happened when Raúl [Fernández] was attacking hard in front of me. I got a bit hot. Anyway, it was complicated, but it will also help for tomorrow’s race‘.
Acosta then stated: ‘In the end, I overheated the front tire a lot behind Pecco [Bagnaia] and Brad [Binder]. And then I made mistakes in the corners, and started sliding, so it was a snowball effect‘.
Being in the lead during this race was not an easy task, according to the rookie: ‘Maybe everyone wants to be in the front to cool down the front tire, but then it was very difficult to be in the front, because when you’re alone or with a big gap to the rider ahead, it was difficult to be fast in the final sector. So it was easy for other riders to overtake you in the first corner. And it was very difficult to avoid sliding the front in turn five, so it was very complicated‘.
