Aleix Espargaró didn’t have a moment’s peace today in Thailand and at the end of the race he showed himself very upset, especially mentally, after a race he considered to be the worst of his life. The Aprilia rider had problems with the brakes, which left him practically in a panic, and he didn’t have the arguments to battle with those who finished ahead of him, who he considers to have a better bike.
In a first analysis of his performance this Sunday in Buriram, A. Espargaró began by mentioning the extreme difficulties: ‘It was a difficult race honestly, I couldn’t brake, it was the most difficult of my life. In the last three laps I panicked: I tried to breathe and I couldn’t, it was super super worrying and when I got to the garage I thought I was going to die, it was a very very tough race for me, very difficult to maintain focus’.
According to #41, this race is a summary of what this year has been for him: ‘For me, today’s race is an example of what my championship has been: we are fifth in terms of drivers and the four who finished ahead of me are faster than me this year and have better bikes than mine, that’s for sure. Today’s race is the image of our championship’.
The Spanish rider then clarified: ‘The first part of the race was very good but I didn’t have enough power in some places and some lack of grip. I was too much on the limit to be able to catch up [to the front group]. Overall, the race wasn’t bad but in the last eight laps, I couldn’t even see the reference points to brake, it was unbelievable and it was the worst race of my career’.
