Jorge Martín achieved a double podium at the Qatar MotoGP Grand Prix. After winning the Sprint race, he finished third in the main race at Losail, and is currently third in the championship after the opening round.
The Prima Pramac rider was pleased with the results, as he stated in a press conference: ‘I can’t complain. I’m quite happy. If you had asked me on Saturday, I don’t think I would have been on the podium on Sunday. So, I’m satisfied with the result. I do think we had the potential to do a bit better in the main race, but it is what it is. Either way, we are competitive. On Saturday with the record lap and the Sprint race win, on Sunday we were on the podium‘.
In the final laps, Martín was involved in the battle for second place with Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM), while also having to be cautious with the approach of Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati) – at a stage of the race that #89 commented like this: ‘I had two battles at the same time – I had Brad ahead, who was trying to catch him; and then I was very, very close to Marc trying to catch me. Two laps from the end I was able to take many risks and make this distance. I was thinking of overtaking Brad on the last lap, but maybe it was too much‘.
The 2023 world runner-up considers that he has not yet reached his maximum, but even so it was one of the best starts to the MotoGP season he has had: ‘I think it was the best start of my career so far in MotoGP, so I think it’s good – because I usually start very, very badly, so starting like this we just need to grow. It was difficult, I couldn’t ride at 100 percent because we still have difficulties with the bike. Let’s see in Portimão if we can improve‘.
