After being the winner yesterday, José Ignacio Cornejo was the first to start the fifth stage of the Dakar 2024. Being the first on the road on a day with many dunes, the task was difficult and he only managed to reach 14th place – losing the overall lead to Ross Branch (Hero MotoSports).
The Monster Energy Honda rider, who is now in second position, admitted that it was a challenging stage, but believes he had a good performance:
– It wasn’t easy to open in the dunes. I tried to do a good job. My teammate Ricky [Brabec] caught up with me around kilometer 50 – he was attacking very hard. And then we started attacking together all day. So, I think we did a good job. I didn’t lose too much time. I’m happy. […]. I hope I didn’t lose too much time and still managed to have a good stage.
