Enea Bastianini is in the best form since joining the Ducati factory team in MotoGP. This Sunday, at the Americas GP, he achieved his second consecutive podium with third place in Austin, which promoted him to second in the championship.
During the press conference, the Italian highlighted the importance of this result, in a race for which he started with low levels of optimism after what happened on Saturday in Austin:
– It was important to be on the podium here at COTA as well, also because this is one of my favorite tracks, but because I missed the race last year. Seeing how Saturday went, I wasn’t really optimistic, but the start was good. And after seeing my start, I thought, ‘Well, now I’ll try to move forward.’ But I made some mistakes and some other riders overtook me during the first part of the race.
With a different tire option than some rivals, Bastianini took more risks in the final laps, as he explained: ‘Inside me, I said, “You have to stay calm.” Because I was one of the riders with the soft [tire] at the rear. In the end, I tried to attack only in the last seven/eight laps. Jorge [Martín] was very difficult to overtake. I only overtook him two laps from the end, I believe. And I can be happy’.
