Enea Bastianini finished the MotoGP Portuguese Grand Prix in second place, but he did not fail to show good speed – even setting the circuit lap record more than once. However, he was in third behind Maverick Viñales until the Spanish rider encountered problems near the end and was promoted to second place.
Only Jorge Martín (Pramac/Ducati) finished ahead of Bastianini. The Ducati rider was asked in a press conference if he ever thought that victory was possible. In response, he denied:
– Jorge was in the lead and I was behind Maverick. It was difficult for me to think about winning this race. My goal was to try to fight with Maverick on the last lap, and victory was not possible. Only if I had been in second place, the race could have been a bit difficult. I think Jorge was perfect throughout the race and I believe it would have been too dangerous.
