Aleix Espargaró is having a great farewell from the Catalan GP as a MotoGP rider. The Aprilia man not only secured pole position, but also took the victory in the Sprint race – benefiting from Francesco Bagnaia’s (Ducati) crash in front of him on the last lap.
In the interview with the official broadcast, the rider began by describing what this round has been like for him so far: ‘It’s been amazing in the last two days; it’s like a fairy tale, I have no words to describe it!‘.
About the Sprint race itself, Espargaró stated: ‘The race was very tough. The track was very slippery and I lost the front end a few times. But when I saw the lap times they were doing, I was completely sure that it was impossible to keep up with that pace. And indeed they started to crash. I just tried to keep the pace, tried to save the rear tire, for the last laps‘.
Seeing the risks Bagnaia was taking, the Spaniard tried to pressure him until the end, successfully, as he mentioned: ‘Pecco was also doing very well, but he was taking risks, so my goal was to pressure him until the last corner and it worked. I am very happy‘.
