Jorge Lorenzo, who shared many years at the highest level with Marc Márquez during his MotoGP World Championship career, spoke in statements about Marc’s mentality during these years.
The former Spanish rider, in statements for the podcast “The Wild Project,” talked about Marc and compared his mentality with that of his rivals during the time when Lorenzo was competing.
– He didn’t mind throwing you off the track. As a person, he is a very normal guy, from a very small town. But on the track, he’s a killer. Like Pedrosa, Stoner, Rossi, or me. He didn’t mind throwing us off the track. In fact, he threw many riders in the 125s, 250s, and even in MotoGP. And he paid for it many times. He was very dangerous as a rival because he was the only one who didn’t mind getting hurt. The rest of us didn’t want to get hurt. When a fighter doesn’t mind getting hurt, it’s very dangerous. Well, he didn’t mind falling, getting hurt, breaking something…”
He also added: ‘He was a ‘pitbull’: if he was doing badly on the track or if the bike wasn’t running well, he still wanted to win. He didn’t accept finishing second or third. Pedrosa or Stoner, if they had a bad day, would settle for points and think about the next race. He didn’t do that, he always wanted to win, and when you come across someone like that, it’s difficult.’
