The 18th place in qualifying didn’t bode well for Sergio García in the Moto2 Qatar GP. However, he achieved an impressive third place.
The Spanish rider from MT Helmets-MSi defended, as quoted by Marca, that credit is also due to the team: ‘It was the first race, a disastrous qualifying session, but we managed to solve it during the race. The merit is mine, but also the team’s, because after the disaster on Saturday, they knew how to find the fault. They gathered the whole team and gave me a wake-up call. I think I failed a lot on Saturday. But being able to give the team’s first podium in Moto2, in the first race, with a good result from my teammate. I’m getting along very well with this bike, I just need to get the fastest lap, as always. I have to focus on that because if I had stayed ahead, I could have won the race’.
García also emphasized: ‘The result is very positive, after a very complicated step into Moto2. There were many people who didn’t trust me, because of my height, but in the end, I showed that with work it’s possible to do everything. Now it seems that tall riders are on trend, but us shorter ones can also fight. I have to thank the team that trusted me, I believe we are going to achieve great things’.
