Marc Márquez once again made an unlikely recovery in the MotoGP Catalan GP Sprint race. The Gresini rider started from 14th and finished second, just behind Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia).
Something unexpected for the eight-time world champion, as he himself admitted to the official broadcast: ‘It’s unbelievable. I didn’t expect it – in Le Mans the pace was there, but today the pace wasn’t there. But it seems like I broke the aerodynamics in turn two and then the bike worked better [laughs]. No, it’s a joke, it’s a joke!‘.
In the Sprint race, besides the different track conditions, Márquez explained that he had a strong pace in the final phase: ‘The track was very different, it was very slippery, and the pace was there. I was very patient in the first laps, and then in the last laps I was able to be faster and faster. My rear tire was in very good shape‘.
Finally, the Spanish rider recalled the crashes that occurred and congratulated Espargaró for the victory: ‘Of course, several riders crashed, but the situation was quite critical. Congratulations to Aleix, who today – and maybe tomorrow – will be his day because it is his last race at the Circuit de Catalunya‘.
