Motorcycling is a sport particularly prone to injuries. A good example of this was the 2023 MotoGP season, in which all the main races had at least one absent rider due to injury. Álex Márquez, from Gresini, addressed the aspects of preparation and injuries on Spanish television.
During a conversation with participants of Operación Triunfo, #73 spoke about his preparation before the new season: ‘I started with a lot of riding, then I will stop, do physical training – which is aerobic, cycling, running, gym, every day. And we can’t train on our bikes whenever we want. […]. So there are other disciplines. But it’s the same for everyone‘.
Regarding injury prevention, Márquez explained that it is not as preventable as in football: ‘It’s not like football players, who can prevent it a bit. We fall, there’s no prevention. Flexibility, you have to be agile, because if you’re like a rock, you can be very strong, but you fall and get injured. That’s the problem. But usually, on a muscular level like football players or tennis players, we don’t get injured. It’s more about the impact from falls, on the bones‘.
