MotoGP is preparing to introduce new rules in 2027, in an authentic revolution that is expected to make motorcycles more conducive to direct duels and overtaking.
Aleix Espargaró, from Aprilia, said he enjoys riding the current generation of motorcycles: ‘I love these motorcycles with aerodynamics. Riding these motorcycles is unbelievable. They are like four-wheeled motorcycles. The amount of speed you can carry is crazy, so for riders it’s fantastic to ride them‘.
That said, the Spaniard acknowledged that changes need to be made in order to preserve the quality of the spectacle that is racing: ‘But in terms of spectacle it’s not good – not being able to overtake the riders in front of you. So, I like it, but I think it’s better to reduce it a bit‘.
In the 2027 motorcycles, aerodynamics will be reduced, height adjustment devices will be banned, and even the engine will have a smaller displacement. There will also be fewer possibilities to develop aerodynamics, specifically in the seat area.
