The Qatar GP kicks off the new MotoGP season this weekend, after two days of testing at the same circuit. Maverick Viñales believes that no conclusions can be drawn from the result that will be achieved, but he is excited about the opening round.
The Aprilia rider highlighted that he is better prepared than in 2023: ‘I am very motivated and also truly curious to start the season. It is certain that it is a different season from last year – we are more prepared. My head mechanic [José] Manuel [Cazeaux] knows the bike much better now, so basically we know what we need’.
Viñales later said: ‘This race is always very unusual because we all arrive very strong, so this result does not mean the rest of the season, so we need to work very hard, but the work was done in the test. I just want to do good laps and see where we really are on a competition weekend’.
Satisfied with the feeling and performance in the tests at Losail, #12 also admitted that a GP is different: ‘The test is always a bit different from the competition weekend. Of course, in a competition weekend I believe the grip will not be as good as in the test. But I finished the test with a very good impression’.
