Aprilia is determined to establish itself as a force in MotoGP and, after the progress made in recent years, will once again present a bike with interesting solutions in 2024 – particularly the elaborate aerodynamics at the rear. Massimo Rivola, CEO of Aprilia Racing, addressed the issue.
This is a path constantly sought by the Noale manufacturer, as the Italian stated: ‘To be honest, I believe that every year – especially from an aerodynamic standpoint – we introduce a lot of innovation. I think innovation is part of Aprilia’s DNA and we are very eager to continue innovating. Whether all these innovations will work or not is a different matter, because sometimes you have the numbers, you have the CFD, you have the wind tunnel that tells you something, but when you go to the track, maybe the rider’s feeling is a different matter‘.
That being said, Rivola mentioned that there were no major showcase innovations in the 2024 RS-GP: ‘I believe there is nothing special this year. It is true that aerodynamics is an area that we believe will bring performance to our bike. That was clear from 2019 to 2020, from 2020 to 2021 – in other words, every year we took a step forward. And once again, I think this year is another step. But when you change from that standpoint, you give the rider a bike that is behaving differently, so you need some time to adapt to it‘.
