There has been no official announcement from MotoGP yet, but this year’s Indian GP is canceled. The information comes from the local promoter of the round that was scheduled for September 20-22 at the Buddh International Circuit.
In a statement quoted by Motorsport.com, the executive director of the organizing entity Fairstreet Sports, Pushkar Nath Srivastava, stated: ‘The decision to move the race to March of next year, aiming for the first or second week, was a collective agreement with all parties involved‘.
Although not explicitly canceled, the content of the statements points to that – the GP being canceled this year, moving to the early stage of the next season. The Fairstreet Sports official went into details that point in that direction:
– The inadequate weather conditions in September posed significant challenges for both the riders and the stewards, as observed last year. With the support and vision of the Uttar Pradesh government, the race in March will be held in a more grandiose way and will aim to set a new standard for excellence in motor sports events.
Heat… or contractual breach?
The weather is cited as the reason for this cancellation, but Motorsport.com writes that what really led to this outcome was a breach of contract with Dorna by the Indian promoter – of a financial nature.
GP of Kazakhstan in place of India
As is known, the GP of Kazakhstan was scheduled for June 14-16, but was postponed without a new date due to the recent floods that affected Central Asia. Now that India is leaving the calendar, it is expected that the Sokol round will take place on its dates – September 20-22, inserted in the Asian phase of the season.
