The Thai GP was in the past one of the races particularly favorable to Marc Márquez, where he won his last MotoGP title in 2019. The Repsol Honda rider now approaches this race with some caution regarding his chances.
Asked if the Buriram race is one that offers more chances to achieve a strong result before leaving his current team, the Spanish rider replied: ‘I can’t answer, but in theory here and Valencia, but also Phillip Island and in Phillip Island we didn’t get a good result. So, we’ll see during the weekend‘.
On the other hand, Márquez mentioned that the construction of the rear tire will have some similarities to the Indian GP: ‘Here we will start more or less like in India. Especially the rear carcass is the same as in India. It is a carcass with which I had many difficulties in the past, but in India I managed. It is true that with this carcass, for example, Joan [Mir] rode a little better than with the standard one. But I feel better with the standard carcass. So, we will see. Right in FP1, on the first exit to the track, you understand if you are on a good base or if you need to change some things‘.
And in case of rain, #93 considers that the chances are higher, although he acknowledges that he is not riding as well on wet ground this season: ‘If it rains, the possibilities are higher. But it is true that this year on wet ground I was fast, but I did not ride well. I don’t feel the way to ride fast. It is true that sometimes I am fast on wet ground because I know where I need to brake, where I need to accelerate, where I need to lean. But not because of the feeling of the bike. Last year the feeling was very good on wet ground and this year I am fine, but the feeling is not good. Therefore, for this reason, at some circuits like Silverstone we had many difficulties on wet ground‘.
