Pedro Acosta finished the Qatar MotoGP Grand Prix in ninth place, but left exciting indications for his debut season in MotoGP. The young Red Bull GasGas Tech3 rider was running close to podium positions before breaking down, and despite being pleased with his performance, he knows there is still much work to be done.
In an interview with Nico Abad, the Spanish prodigy stated: ‘I was happy; it was missing the final touch. The truth is what I say: I think we were at a level that we didn’t even think we could reach. I believe that especially in the second race, which I think was difficult, we showed a much higher level than we had in the Sprint. […]. I think we have to be more than happy’.
According to Acosta, the conditions he found in the main race at Losail were more favorable, but this year’s bike also helped: ‘I think especially in the long race it was a much more natural situation for me – much more weight with the fuel, many more laps… […]. I think this year we achieved much more traction with the bike than with the frame I had in Valencia – and it’s much more about racing. So it allowed me to brake much later, allowed me to enter with much more confidence, which I think was something I was lacking a bit with the aluminum frame. So I believe it was a consequence of many things. The truth is that I had a fairly good pace in the first part of the race. I think in the end we made a mistake by managing so much and that’s why we had that pace, but I think little by little we have to polish the details‘.
