After a long journey in the MotoGP paddock, Álvaro Bautista decided to move to the World Superbike Championship in 2019. After a good start, he had a less good period, including two years at Honda (2020 and 2021) marked by few possibilities… before returning to Aruba.it Ducati to dominate from 2022.
Coming from MotoGP, there could be the impression among the public that the Spanish rider would have an easy task. However, in statements to the website GPOne.com, the Spanish rider emphasized that this is not the case:
– People thought it was easy in Superbike, but we have seen many riders moving from SBK to MotoGP and struggling. I am of the opinion that SBK is simply a different championship.
Regarding his career in MotoGP, Bautista considers that, with different conditions, he could have achieved different results: ‘Unfortunately in MotoGP I did not show that with a good team and a bike I could have aimed for better results‘.
In MotoGP from 2010 to 2018, the two-time Superbike world champion was in the official teams of Suzuki and Aprilia, as well as in Gresini and Aspar. Three third places were his best results.
