Iker Lecuona has his third year in the Superbike World Championship in 2024, once again with Team HRC, and starts this upcoming year after a winter where it was possible to “disconnect”, rest, and come back with new confidence, especially after a ‘minor surgery’.
In the team presentation, the rider who finished the year in 13th place in the championship in 2023 spoke about what he did during the months without competition: ‘I really enjoyed the pre-season. I love winter, I love the cold, and I’m lucky to live in Andorra, which is the ideal place for skiing. So, I do a lot of alpine skiing, but I also do motocross and flat track. I love winter because I can relax and have time for myself’.
He continued, explaining how he spent his time and how he underwent surgery: ‘I am very happy to be a factory rider with the same team for the third year, and that means I am motivated to work hard during the pre-season. I had a minor hand surgery in early December to have time to recover and then have the right energy and attitude to get back on the bike and work hard in January. I know what my goal is, I know what my targets are, and I know where I want to improve, so I’m trying to focus on those areas with the aim of being able to fight at the front in Australia and beyond. Let’s see what happens’.
Then followed some words about Tom Jojic, his new chief engineer: ‘To be honest, changing chief engineers is never a problem for me. I think I am a friendly and open person, so I am always happy to work with new colleagues and I have always had a good relationship with members of my team. My first impression is good and Tom seems to be a very cool guy, with a positive and cheerful outlook. So far, so good, and I am looking forward to developing our relationship throughout the season’.
