In 2027, MotoGP will adopt new technical regulations, which among other things will dictate a reduction in aerodynamics on motorcycles. Over the past few years, innovations in this area have multiplied, in addition to solutions such as height adjustment devices. And this has a negative impact on the quality of the races, making overtaking more difficult.
The sporting director of Dorna, Carlos Ezpeleta, explained on the Por Orejas podcast, quoted by Motosan.es, that these innovations come as a result of what the industry develops, and not because Dorna requests them:
– Dorna did not choose to put wings on motorcycles or choose to allow motorcycles to go up and down, nor the start devices, nothing. These are things that the industry has been developing and we, like in everything, react to this development. What is clear is that a very important part of the success of the technical equality in MotoGP are these five-year technical freeze blocks.
Ezpeleta emphasized the importance of this regulatory stability for leveling the playing field: ‘If you have regulations that are changing every year, those who are ahead have more and more advantage and those with more resources, because constantly changing regulations is worse for smaller manufacturers‘.
