The 2024 MotoGP season is a fresh start for Marc Márquez, who after a decade at Repsol Honda wanted to move to Gresini and a Ducati bike. His goal was modest: to see if, with a competitive bike, he could still fight at the top, after all the difficulties he has faced since 2020 and his journey in the desert of Honda itself.
This start of the season is revealing a Márquez capable of fighting for top positions again, which already opens up prospects for a different kind of ambitions in the coming years. So much so that he is already being pointed out as one of the possible options for the seat alongside Francesco Bagnaia in the official Ducati team.
In a press conference, the eight-time world champion mentioned that he is meeting his goals for 2024: ‘Of course, unlike Jorge [Martín], I am new to Ducati, and I arrive here in a very special situation and now step by step I feel better on track, I feel much more confident and this was my goal for this year‘.
That said, Márquez admitted that, if he continues like this, his goal will be to fight for the title in the coming years, recognizing that he needs a bike that is up to date and competitive:
– It is obvious that if I continue like this in 2025 and 2026 the goal will be different, and the goal will be to fight for the title. For that reason, if you want to fight for the title you need to have the latest equipment on your bike to have more chances. But as I say, if I am fast on track, I will have more options for my future and if I have the chance I will decide the best.
