Aleix Espargaró is a question mark at the moment. His future is unclear and with the dates for announcing his future drawing ever closer, he will have to make a decision by the time of the Mugello GP.
The Spanish rider’s decision could have a major influence on the rider market for next season. For the time being, Aprilia Racing is remaining calm and patient as Aleix’s decision arrives.
Aprilia’s CEO Massimo Rivola spoke to Sky about the issue, but he was very calm about Espargaró’s or Aprilia’s decision.
– I have great affection for Aleix Espargaró for everything he has brought to the team. We’ll make a decision at Mugello. He’s still in good shape and age is just experience, but if Aleix decides to leave, we’ll go to the market and look for alternatives. An Italian name would be interesting, there’s no specific profile, but I’m sure he must be dedicated to the cause
In addition to Aprilia’s CEO, Aleix also made statements about his future, outlining a date until the Mugello GP: ‘I will decide in these four races, which are legendary circuits, very important, Jerez, Le Mans, Mugello and Barcelona. I’m not in a hurry and neither is Aprilia, I know they’ll be one of the last to decide. So let’s take it easy and enjoy these races, they’re among the best on the calendar. The results, in the end, are what give us the strength to make a decision’.
