Right on his second round with ROKiT BMW in the World Superbike Championship, Toprak Razgatlioglu secured his first two victories. In Barcelona, his teammate Michael van der Mark also had a strong performance, fighting in the top five despite not reaching the podium.
Scott Redding, from the Bonovo Action satellite team, admitted that this performance at the Spanish circuit was a big surprise for him: ‘What Toprak and van der Mark showed is great, but it was a shock for me. I would bet everything on Toprak winning, but not in Barcelona‘.
Despite being impressed and acknowledging Razgatlioglu’s quality, the British rider believes he has what it takes to surpass him: ‘I think Toprak is a better rider than me. He has more natural talent. But that doesn’t mean I can’t beat him. After a few tough years, I have to get rid of my habits and ride like Scott Redding again‘.
The start of the season was not particularly encouraging for Redding, who made it clear he wants to do more: ‘My goal is always to finish in the top five, or in the top three. I’m not that far from it, considering that Barcelona is the toughest track for me. From Assen onwards, it should be much better‘.
