Pedro Acosta finished, once again, the Sunday race of the Catalunya GP early. The Spanish rider suffered a crash while in second place and fighting for the win with Jorge Martín.
The Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 rider is now in 6th place in the championship heading to Italy for the Mugello GP. In the debrief, Acosta talked about the race events and what he felt at the time of the crash while in second place.
– I was having issues with the front of the bike, we still don’t know what it is. In Le Mans I had no problems with the bike. In Le Mans and here were the only circuits where I was fighting for the win, it was where I managed to have a normal qualifying and it’s the worst weekend to crash of the season because of the circuit. We have some questions to find out what happened to crash and understand the origin, it’s not the tires. I’m not going to say that I would have beaten Martín or Pecco, but with the pace we had compared to the rest of the group and at worst I would have finished third.
Asked if he chose to catch up to the front faster in order to keep up with Martín, Acosta replied: ‘It was easy to follow Martín, we had no problems yesterday or today. I was managing in many right-hand corners and then using the left-hand corners to get closer to him. I won’t say I would have won if I hadn’t crashed, but I had the bike to fight for the win.’
