Marco Bezzecchi had a significantly better result at the MotoGP Portuguese Grand Prix, finishing sixth. The rider spent a good part of the race in Portimão behind Miguel Oliveira (Trackhouse Racing/Aprilia), managing to increase his pace when he overtook the Portuguese.
The Pertamina Enduro VR46 man told journalists: ‘At the beginning I was a bit better. I lost some positions in the first two corners, but compared to the Sprint race it wasn’t too bad. Then I was behind Miguel for almost 70 percent of the race and we were recovering together’.
With the bike behaving differently when he was behind Oliveira, Bezzecchi highlighted that he was able to have more speed afterwards: ‘My front tire pressure was a bit high, but overall it wasn’t too bad. But the bike was working a bit differently compared to when I was alone. So, when I was able to overtake him, I was a bit faster. Then I saw several crashes ahead and gained three positions for free’.
