The start of the MotoGP season has been far from encouraging for Repsol Honda. Joan Mir finished 13th in Qatar and 12th in Portugal, while Luca Marini finished 20th and 17th, respectively. In the constructors’ championship, Honda is last with only eight points. The team director acknowledges that the results are far from ideal, but only expects more visible progress in a later stage of the season.
The official did not hide that the performances are displeasing to the riders: ‘Our riders are not at all satisfied with the performance, but they can see that we are making every effort. We are in the development process‘.
MotoGP never stands still and, like Honda, other manufacturers are progressing. The task for the Japanese is not easy, but Puig gave a guarantee to the MotoGP website, quoted by Motosan.es: ‘We have a mission. Our plan is clear. We said it last year. It’s not easy, but we are investing a lot of resources. We have also strengthened the project in terms of personnel‘.
The Spaniard emphasized that all of this is an ongoing process that is not only seen through the results: ‘We are not there yet if we look at the standings, but it’s a process. Of course, at this moment we would prefer to be further ahead. But things are as they are. We will continue to try‘.
Although he recognizes that Honda needs more, Puig also highlighted the determination. Regarding concessions, he stated: ‘I think we can move forward with concessions after the summer break. We hope to see clearer progress in the second half of the season. That is our hope and it is reasonable to believe. Those are our expectations‘.
