Enea Bastianini wraps up the MotoGP pre-season fully aware that he needs to do better. The rider is far from being adapted to the KTM RC16 and finished only 15th in the Buriram tests.
The Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider spoke about his struggles: ‘Overall, I’m a bit happier than yesterday, because this afternoon I improved a bit my lap time. I’m not really happy with my pace at the moment, because I make too many mistakes during my laps. Sometimes I can’t brake hard, sometimes I can. At the moment, I don’t know the situation very well, and we have to do something more for the race’.
With two weeks left before the Thai GP, Bastianini will focus on learning: ‘This period is important to study and check the data, and to learn. Because the bike is different, and at the moment my approach is not the correct one’.
For Bestia, racing will be the best way to improve: ‘I think the best thing is to do a race here. I know very well what I have to do. We also have to improve with the used tyre, because the drop is big, and it could be complicated for the race’.
According to Bastianini, riding the KTM RC16 still doesn’t feel natural: ‘It’s not natural, because after learning a lot about other bike and coming to this one, it’s not easy. But at the end I did a good lap. I wasn’t at 100%, but the lap time was more or less good’.
