Fabio Di Giannantonio set the fastest time in the MotoGP tests that took place yesterday in Jerez. The Pertamina Enduro VR46 rider completed a lap in 1m36.405s and outpaced Maverick Viñales (Aprilia) by 0.087s.
The Italian was pleased with the work done, but also expressed frustration at the fact that being fast was still a surprise: ‘We just tried to focus on the areas to improve and we worked very well and improved. But I’m a bit tired of always being a surprise that I’m fast. I think we are strong with the team, the team is fantastic and that’s why we did an incredible job in this test. Also with the help of Ducati, who gave us some updates. So, it was important to try various things and we were fast‘.
Asked if there are any weaknesses he needs to work on, Di Giannantonio confirmed: ‘As a rider, yes, definitely. I always try to improve my riding style. But also on the bike we lacked something – especially in the final part of braking. Because the GP23 pushes the front a lot and it’s difficult to take the right line to prepare the exit well. And we improved in that area, so it’s very good‘.
Regarding in which type of corners the shortcomings are evident, #49 replied: ‘It’s more in the slow corners, like corners 1, 2, 6, 9 and 13, that’s where you have more difficulties. But sometimes also in corner 8, for example. Let’s see if we improve in the slow corners if it’s possible to take advantage of this also in the fast corners‘.
