Aprilia has clearly progressed for the 2024 MotoGP season, as evidenced by the results of the recent tests in Sepang. However, the competition – particularly Ducati – has also strengthened, and despite considerable gains in lap time, Aleix Espargaró has some reservations about whether it will be possible to fight for the title.
The CEO of Aprilia Racing, Massimo Rivola, himself feels that the conditions are not yet in place to set such a goal. Confronted with the executive’s position, the Spanish rider stated:
– Once again, all the Ducatis were in front and I was the only bike in the middle of them. But it’s obvious that we have improved, the bike is definitely better than last season’s. But I’m not sure if we are already capable of fighting for the title. But in any case, we still have time. It’s only the first test of the season, but Massimo is right: they [Ducati] still have the bike to beat, they have many strong riders, so it won’t be easy.
