Marco Bezzecchi finished fourth in the MotoGP Japanese Grand Prix, after being overtaken by Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) just before the race was red-flagged. As a result, he conceded more points to Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati) and Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) in their pursuit of the championship lead, as both rivals finished first and second in this race, respectively.
The Italian from Mooney VR46 Racing Team told the official MotoGP website that he regrets losing the podium near the end, but considers the result satisfactory: ‘I feel good. Of course, it’s a shame to lose the podium just two laps before the red flag, but unfortunately I had a problem with my windshield and couldn’t see anything at all – along with all the rain, which was a lot, it was difficult for me to go faster than I did. It’s a shame, because Marc overtook me in those last two laps. But in the end, fourth place is good, we added some points and now we can think about Indonesia‘.
Now further from the top of the World Championship, Bezzecchi ensured that this is not his focus: ‘Well, I’m not looking too much at the championship. Of course I wanted to be closer to them, but first of all in the race, try to fight with them. And then the championship is more of a consequence of this. But we are still there, so we keep working and keep fighting’.
