Aleix Espargaró arrives at the Mugello GP with two positive results over the weekend. The Spanish rider finished the Sprint race in first place and came in 4th in the Sunday race.
In the debrief, the Aprilia Racing rider talked about the expectations he has for the weekend and the fact that Aprilia is bringing their test rider to race:
– I am still happy. It was a fantastic weekend in Barcelona and I bring the good mood here. It is also a very important weekend for us. I said that these races are very important because they are very good circuits and a very important weekend for me and the team. So, I hope we can shine like in Barcelona, here in Mugello. Paul will be on track, so it will be even more special. I am very happy for him. He was quite excited after a long time without racing. So, I am happy that he feels good again. He proved that he still has speed. In the Jerez test, he was very fast. So, yes, we will see. I would like to ride with him during the first practice. I will wait a bit for him and I will ride with him.
He also added about the 2024 version of the RS-GP and also talked about his future: ‘In the past, the bike was not too bad here. I had some ideas after Barcelona and, together with the team, we will make some changes to improve a bit, because the 24 version is much better than the 23 in braking, but in fast corners I lack something I had last season, so we will try to make some small changes. I’m still not sure how Salvadori’s test went. I have a meeting later. But I don’t think he tried anything very new. So we know what our vibe is and it won’t be easy to fight against Ducati because they test a lot here. They are very fast, with long, long straights. But I will do my best. I still don’t want to talk about my future. I want to enjoy the moment I had. I think after eight years it’s good to have some time to enjoy with Aprilia. My future is not very interesting either. I will just be a rider. But sometimes, even if we are in the best place in the world, which is Aprilia, we need new challenges, new motivations. We need new challenges, new motivations. So, yes, that’s all I can say.’
