After an exemplary start to the season, Jorge Martín suffered a crash at the Jerez GP while leading the race on Sunday. This crash put his rival, Francesco Bagnaia, just 17 points behind.
Jorge Martín’s sports director and coach, Fonsi Nieto, commented on the performance of the Spanish rider to Diário AS.
– There is absolutely nothing to criticize when you crash while leading and trying to win the race at home. We got up and kept working. Did we want to win in Jerez? Yes. Did we do it on Saturday? Yes, like a champion, in a very difficult race. I have nothing else to criticize Jorge for except to continue to tip my hat to him for what he is doing. In Jerez, we all want to win, but only one of us does.
He also added: ‘Jorge doesn’t take long to turn the page. He was really upset, but in half an hour he was asking for the team’s attention. What I like about Jorge is that he is the one who pushes the team.’
