Maverick Viñales returned to the podium with second place in the Indonesian MotoGP Grand Prix, where he was only beaten by Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati). It was the ideal reaction to a less good period in the previous two rounds.
The Aprilia rider said in a press conference that he was pleased with the performance in Mandalika, but stressed that there is still ground to make up against Ducati: ‘We have to be happy. We made a very good recovery after two races in which we were unable to perform well. Basically, I felt fantastic with the bike all weekend. There are some things to improve to try to get closer to Ducati, because on Saturday I had tire degradation, but also on Sunday I saw that they had a little more at the end‘.
Determined to do better, Viñales also stated: ‘I am just trying to understand this, working on it. Because of course you always want to do better. And the way to do it is to try to lead races, try to push the bike to the limit, and that way you can understand a little better where you stand. However, this weekend I felt the bike at a very good level and it’s something I really like because we can get a lot of information and that is fantastic’.
