Fabio Quartararo finished the Catalunya GP in 9th position. The French rider managed to overtake Miguel Oliveira on the last lap and earn more points for the championship, leaving the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team rider in 12th place in the MotoGP world championship.
Despite the difficulties of the Japanese manufacturer, Quartararo is only ten points away from the top 10 in the championship. In the debrief, the French rider, who recently renewed with Yamaha, spoke about the race and the sensations he had during it.
– It was a good result, for me it was a good race considering the position we are in. We know what is missing and we are working on it, we finished less than 5 seconds behind the leader which was positive and I think we are heading in the direction we were in Le Mans so I think we are taking the right steps. The concessions were very good indeed, we are benefiting from that, it is very worthwhile because Yamaha has never worked in this way in the past, we have tested new frames, thousands of them, and I don’t need to test that anymore, we already know what is missing and where the problem is, so now we have to focus on that and continue to work in a smart way.
Questioned if Yamaha is finally working in the right way and about overtaking Miguel Oliveira and Marco Bezzecchi on the last lap, Quartararo replied: ‘Yes, of course, when we take small steps we want to take bigger ones right away, but I feel like we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I hope we can take a bigger step very soon. It was good because I saw Oliveira and Bezz fighting and I realized they were going to open up, so I overtook them, managed to keep the position until the end despite the condition of the tires which proves our improvement on the bike.’
