Raul Fernandez started the Sprint race at the Catalunya GP in an impressive way. The Spanish rider started from third position and in a couple of laps took the lead of the race where he set the fastest lap of the race. Unfortunately, Raul made a mistake and suffered a crash that took him out of the race.
In the debrief, the Trackhouse Racing driver talked about the events during the Sprint race.
“I feel better now, but when I arrived at the box I was crying like a baby. I want to apologize to the team, I made a very stupid mistake, I felt very comfortable today, but it was a mistake. I didn’t want to crash when I was leading, I think we are working very well, Aprilia helped me a lot and today I felt very good with the bike. I felt like I was in Moto2. I have to focus on tomorrow, I can ride very easily and I will try to do the same tomorrow because I have the pace. I feel very comfortable. We changed the electronics and my riding style for this track, but the main change was in the electronics.”
Asked about the main difference for this GP compared to others, which is setting the fast pace in the race, Raul replied: ‘My style for this track has changed and the electronics. The main reason is that I am riding the way I want and it’s making all the difference. I crashed, but it’s part of the game, it happened to Pecco and he is the world champion, it’s not an easy category, but we are on the right path. It was 100% my fault in the crash, maybe too much ambition, but it’s part of the game. I am still very happy because I saw that we are competitive, we needed time to have everything as I wanted.’
