Miguel Oliveira is in his sixth season in the MotoGP World Championship. Although he has already shown that he has the ability to win races – he has five victories – he has not yet done so consistently. This year he is with Trackhouse Racing and rides an Aprilia RS-GP, which has proven to be one of the most promising bikes.
The Portuguese told journalist Pedro Pinto on the 1 PARA 1 podcast that he is determined to be world champion and is with one of the strongest manufacturers currently:
– My goal is to be world champion, that I have clear. I need to have the right conditions with the bike. The bike at the moment… I think there are three manufacturers quite competitive in the championship right now: one is Ducati, the other is KTM, and the other is Aprilia. I am with one of these three great manufacturers that are currently the most competitive.
In Oliveira’s view, there are aspects that can be improved, and some luck is also necessary: ‘I believe there are still things in my team that I can improve. And the rest is a bit of luck – which I lacked a lot last year. And I think that, with that, you will get closer and closer to that reality. Then it’s about scoring points and doing the math at the end of the year‘.
Driver #88 believes he is ready to compete at the front regularly and is also confident in the existing potential: ‘In terms of technique, in terms of mental preparation, I feel prepared to compete for something big, to always be among the top every weekend. There are still a few adjustments I need to make with this new bike, which I haven’t done yet. I have difficulty in saying exactly what it is, but I feel there is still a lot of potential to be achieved. And I think that, when I reach that potential, I will be able to be frequently at the top. And then it’s just being myself and putting in all the effort‘.
