Francesco Bagnaia narrowly missed out on pole position at the Catalunya MotoGP Grand Prix. The rider was leading the qualifying session until very close to the end, but was ultimately beaten by Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) who was 0.031s faster.
The Ducati man considers it important to start in the top three, but admitted in an interview with the official broadcast that he was somewhat frustrated by having a lap cancelled due to yellow flags:
– It is very important – it is always important to start from the front row here in Barcelona. We know the pace is good, but I tried everything to be on pole. I did the lap, but they said there was a yellow flag that I didn’t see.
Starting ahead of strong rivals like Jorge Martín (Pramac Ducati), Bagnaia is satisfied with the second place: ‘In any case, second place is always good and in front of this crowd that is always close to us, it’s great,’ he said.
