Álex Márquez was the sixth fastest rider on the first day of testing at the Cheste circuit. The Gresini rider was pleased with the performance of the GP23, the machine that Pecco Bagnaia and Jorge Martín rode in the just-ended season.
‘The conditions weren’t ideal for completing 56 laps, but I was able to draw some positive conclusions. We improved our setup a bit compared to what happened last weekend, where we had some issues and I didn’t feel good. The first contact with the GP23 was positive. There are positives and areas where we need to improve, but overall I’m satisfied. Above all, I improved my feelings, it’s not a revolution, but an evolution from 2022’, highlighted the Spanish rider, who finished the session ahead of his brother and new teammate Marc Márquez, as quoted by the Marca newspaper.
‘I wasn’t expecting it. That wasn’t my goal. I know he is always fast here in Valencia. Marc is taking the same step I took last year, I know what he will say, we no longer need to keep secrets from each other, we can share things and it’s a positive thing, but we will do it in private. When they announced Marc’s signing, I had said that he would help raise the team’s level and I need to take advantage of that. Personally, I have a really good opportunity to grow as a rider. I can’t make too many bets with him, otherwise he will kick me out of the house’.
