The Spanish GP is only Pedro Acosta’s fourth MotoGP race. Therefore, he is still in an adaptation and learning phase, where each circuit is new to him – even though he has competed there in other categories, such as Jerez.
The Red Bull GasGas Tech3 rider took advantage of yesterday to follow closely Dani Pedrosa (Red Bull KTM), watching what the veteran was doing on track: ‘It certainly helps. In the end, it’s easier when you have one of these top legends in front of you who knows exactly how to ride here and how to manage everything in Jerez. So, it was quite useful. It’s true that FP1 is our worst session throughout the weekend because I need to be focused on several things, but we’re on the right track‘.
Although he has shown speed – being the only KTM rider to go directly to the second phase of qualifying – Acosta admitted that it is still difficult for him to set fast laps without following another rider on Friday:
– In the end, I’m still not ready to do the laps by myself on Friday afternoon. Because the problem is, how many laps do I do in FP1 or in practice? Less than 40. So, on Friday afternoon it’s very difficult to say that I’m ready to attack alone. In qualifying, I’m a bit more prepared, but on Friday afternoon, it is what it is. It’s already difficult to learn a track with a MotoGP bike, imagine also on Friday afternoon starting to push the stopwatch.
