The Superbike Race 2 this weekend in Portimão had one of the most thrilling battles so far in the championship, with Álvaro Bautista coming out on top over Toprak Razgatlioglu right at the end. Both riders fought for the lead on every lap, in an impressive duel that left the Ducati rider very happy.
Now just two points away from securing the title, Bautista talked about how he wasn’t expecting to be so successful in Portimão, not forgetting the battle he had with his Yamaha rival, Razgatlioglu: ‘A very exciting weekend. I certainly wasn’t expecting to get a hat-trick and what makes me particularly proud is the fact that I won fighting on every corner with Toprak, whom I congratulate for being a very tough but always fair opponent. I have to admit that I really enjoyed it: he never let me match my pace, attacking me on every lap. I stayed focused, trying not to make mistakes’.
As he couldn’t finish Race 2 with a seven-point advantage over the Turkish rider, the title decision was left to be decided in Jerez, from October 27 to 29:
– The championship? I’ll tell you the truth: it’s fair that the title be awarded in Jerez and I hope that many fans come to watch the round.
