Raul Fernández finished the Catalunya GP with the best result ever in his premier class career. The Spanish rider finished in 6th position overall, adding ten more points to the championship, thus placing him in 14th position.
In the debrief, Trackhouse Racing’s rider talked about the sensations he had during the race at the Montmeló circuit.
“I am very happy, but not enough, obviously we did a good job, but I didn’t feel comfortable with the rear tire. The final part of the race was very complicated, and I had to use the front tire a lot to compensate and lost a lot of time, anyway we did a good job. I accept all the points and I can say we had a great weekend, fighting for victory in the Sprint and for a top 5 in the race was very good.”
Asked if the advantage he had during the Sprint gave him confidence for today’s race, Raul replied: ‘For me, what changed the most this weekend was the electronics, Aprilia is helping me change my driving style and everyone saw that we are on the right track. I won’t think about the Mugello result, I will go there and work as we did here, try to prepare better on Friday because we had some problems here. I decided to do this race with the medium tires because I felt very good this morning, I don’t know why, but in the race I didn’t feel good at all and couldn’t manage the tires very well.’
