Hungary has little tradition in motorcycle racing, with only two World Championship editions on its territory – both at Hungaroring, in 1990 and 1992. However, next season it could be a reserve event.
The website Crash.net writes that the track near Budapest has been pointed out as a fallback solution in case one of the scheduled GPs fails. In 2022 and 2023 this happened with Finland and Kazakhstan, respectively, but in neither case was there a replacement.
However, Hungaroring would have to be homologated, and some consider it impossible to get the “green light” to host MotoGP until next year. It is certain that there is a desire for Hungary to join the championship: in 2021 an agreement was signed for 2023 at a new circuit near Debrecen, but construction has not even started yet.
