If there’s one thing we can take away from EICMA 2023, it’s that two-wheeled electric vehicles have arrived and are here to stay. Many new and established manufacturers are showcasing their electric mobility solutions at the exhibition, and it’s interesting to see all kinds of new concepts that have the potential to shape the future of the two-wheeled landscape.
Horwin is a brand we’ve talked about on several occasions, and, of course, they didn’t miss the opportunity to present their latest innovations at EICMA. The Chinese company with Austrian design presented what they call “Project Horizon,” a design and development initiative that focuses on a seamless user experience. The project was developed in collaboration with custom bike builder Arjan van der Boom and focuses on the brand’s Senmenti 0 electric scooter.
According to Wendsor Zhou, the founder and CEO of the Horwin Group, Project Horizon is in line with the brand’s vision of a sustainable future. “Project Horizon is a natural extension of our mission to accelerate society’s journey towards a sustainable future – working together with motorcycle communities to improve two-wheeled mobility, reducing its impact on the environment,” he stated in the company’s official press release.
Project Horizon was presented as a collaboration between European motorcyclists, mobility innovators, as well as Horwin designers and engineers. The goal is to create an urban mobility solution that is practical, efficient, stylish, and full of technology. Arjan van der Boom knows a thing or two about style and technology, as he is the founder of Ironwood Custom Motorcycles. The new custom Senmenti 0 is expected to arrive in showrooms in 2024 and will have a rather high price of €14,900.
In terms of performance, the custom Senmenti 0 shares much in common with the concept revealed in 2022. It has a powerful electric motor with a torque of up to 600 Nm, which is then connected to a 16.2 kilowatt-hour battery that promises an impressive range of up to 300 kilometers on a single charge when driven at an average speed of 88 km/h.
Kevin Liu, co-founder and COO of Horwin, explained that the adoption of new practices and technologies is essential for the brand’s development towards the future. “To create products for a sustainable future, we have to challenge the old and closed system of product development isolated from the users and communities that will benefit from them,” he said. “We are establishing partnerships with experts and users like Arjan, who bring a new perspective to the products, and with mobility innovators to ensure that our work goes beyond creating better products, to make the world around us better in general,” he concluded.
