Marc Marquez’s departure from Repsol Honda for the 2024 season has put Oliveira as one of the main contenders for the position. Hodgson commented on the situation during the Indonesian MotoGP, stating: “Miguel Oliveira has a direct contract with Aprilia for next year. Although it is possible to break such contracts, it usually comes with a significant financial cost.”
Considering the money Honda saved with Marquez’s contract termination and the potential fine imposed on Marquez, Honda is in a comfortable financial position to invest in a high-caliber rider. Oliveira, with his vast experience and intelligence, seems to be an ideal choice.
However, given Honda’s recent performance difficulties, the question arises: Would Miguel Oliveira prefer a factory ride with Aprilia or Honda? Hodgson believes that, given the current scenario, Aprilia seems to be the more attractive option. However, he also recognizes Honda’s potential for recovery and the allure of a lucrative long-term contract with them.
Names like Maverick Vinales and Jake Dixon have also been mentioned as potential replacements for Marquez. So far, Marquez’s departure to join Gresini Ducati has left the only vacant spot in the MotoGP rider lineup for 2024, making the decision even more crucial.
