With the introduction of this new E-Clutch technology as an option on the 2024 CBR650R and CB650R, Honda opens up a whole new aspect of the riding experience for riders of all types and levels of experience.
Honda’s E-Clutch utilizes elements of performance and technology found in Quickshifter systems, manual clutches, and the exclusive dual-clutch transmission system, creating a unique blend of all these proven approaches.
The operation of the Honda E-Clutch clutch is simplicity itself, eliminating the need to use a clutch lever to shift gears up or down in the gearbox. The driver only has to press the pedal to change gear quickly and consistently, to enhance the pleasure of sporty driving. The clutch lever is not needed to start or stop. Active as soon as the engine is started, the Honda E-Clutch system manages both scenarios smoothly, while eliminating the possibility of the engine stalling, providing greater comfort and peace of mind when driving in the city, as this situation involves frequent starts and stops. The Honda E-Clutch, if the driver desires, can be activated normally by pulling the clutch lever at any time. If the clutch lever is used, the Honda E-Clutch system reactivates in less than a second above a certain RPM; at lower RPMs, this time increases to 5 seconds. If the driver wants to deactivate the system, they can also do so using the switch on the left side. The switch to manual operation is indicated by the letter “M” on the instrument panel.
The Honda E-Clutch also allows the driver to select a “operating feel” level, thus setting the force required on the gear pedal to make a gear change. There are three settings: HARD, MEDIUM, and SOFT, each of which can be selected independently for downshifts and for engaging higher gears.
