Honda announces the price and availability of the new CRF1100L Africa Twin and CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports, which will start arriving at the official Honda dealership network during the month of January 2024.
The parallel twin engine with 8 valves and 1084 cm³ produces 75 kW at 7500 rpm, with a torque that has increased by 7% to a maximum of 112 N·m at 5500 rpm. There are significant gains in power – especially in torque – at low and medium rotations, compared to the previous model. The intake ducts have been increased from 29 to 35 mm in diameter, allowing for more air intake; the two internal funnels that supply air from the air filter box are both 65 mm longer. The throttle bodies have a diameter of 46 mm; these and the cylinders are aligned, creating a smooth air intake profile. The ECU has new programming and the injector angle allows for optimized spray in the direct ignition combustion chambers with two spark plugs.
The exhaust muffler has been internally updated to match the intake and improve the driving character. Lighter than the previous design, its new internal structure allows the engine to perform better, providing a very pleasant and “pulsating” sound at lower rotations. Another revision in the 2024 model is a tuning of the sound at high rotations for a fuller “bass” note.
Both models will be available with either a conventional transmission or Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). For the 2024 model, the Africa Twin’s DCT has been redefined to take advantage of the increased engine performance. The system also receives an improvement in curve detection and now has a smoother and more natural feel during start-up and between first and second gear, to enhance the sensations and information for the rider.
