Fabio Quartararo finished the Mugello GP in 18th position. The French rider was able to show a good pace during the weekend and the practices in Mugello, but unfortunately did not make it to Q2 which limited his race on Sunday.
In the debrief, the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team rider talked about his race at the Italian circuit.
– At home, especially in the middle of the race, I had a problem with my arm, so I couldn’t ride and we need to improve in this area because it’s not my arm pump, it’s that my arm is clearly at the limit on this type of track, so we need to find a solution. I think the grip we are losing and the engine pushing us forward are making the bike very heavy and it’s our number one priority right now to regain the feeling we had in the past, especially in direction changes. We don’t know why the grip was much lower in our case. I didn’t expect the bike to be so heavy in the race. So, we need to analyze it well. We had difficulties throughout the weekend. But, just like in the race, when the grip is decreasing a bit, it’s even harder for us. I think it’s difficult, of course, but after Jerez I had the same problem and I’ve already had the operation twice and everything seems fine, but the problem is that I basically have no space, like my muscle after half of the race, which was clearly at the limit.
He also added that the aerodynamics of the bikes could affect their physical condition on this type of circuit: “I don’t know what to do at this moment, I think I am training in the best way, like I have never trained before, but it is difficult to say no, because last year we had no problems and I think there is something wrong with the way we have set up our bike this year. Because I believe that, despite making progress, since the beginning of the year we have felt that the bike is very heavy and we need to adjust it. So, we have to figure out what is the main factor that is making this bike so complicated”.
