There are only three pilots who shine in their record victories at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, a trio of chosen ones who dominated the ‘Roller Coaster’ in the face of the excellence of all their opponents.
The first to win in the Algarve was Miguel Oliveira…on November 22nd at 2:42:26 PM, he embraced the checkered flag in first place with over three seconds of advantage over Jack Miller, the second with Franco Morbidelli in his ‘shadow’. It was the perfect debut for MotoGP in the Algarve, unfortunately without an audience because the pandemic and containment measures did not allow the victory to be loudly celebrated at Sitio do Escampadinho.
After Miguel Oliveira, only Fabio Quartararo and Francesco Bagnaia won on the 4592 meters of asphalt near Portimão, both adding two victories – in 2021 the championship held two races in the Algarve – with Bagnaia also becoming the winner of the Sprint in 2023 – the first in the history of the championship – but this does not count towards the GPs.
Now we just have to wait for the end of the race next Sunday to find out who will be the first to cross the finish line…if any of the three previous winners or if we will have a new ‘King of the Roller Coaster’…along the way are 25 laps, 114.8 kilometers, and 375 curves at a pace faster than all the other rivals.
